Training sessions at Stanningley Rugby League Club will be much more fun now thanks to new equipment funded by local Councillors Kevin Ritchie, Caroline Gruen and Jools Heselwood.
The Councillors recently visited the Club to see the under 9s in action and they certainly seemed to be making the most of the new tackle bags as they raced up and down the pitch.
The Under 9s train at the Arthur Miller Stadium in Rodley and they are always looking for new players, both boys and girls are welcome and anyone who is interested is encouraged to get in touch.
Councillor Jools Heselwood (Labour, Bramley and Stanningley) said:
“We were delighted to be able to help fund the new training equipment for the Club. It is so important that young people are given the opportunity to take part in sports such as this so they can develop vital skills such as team work and discipline as well as having fun.”
“Being part of a team is such a fantastic feeling and it really helps develop that team bond when you have the right equipment to use.”
Councillor Caroline Gruen (Labour, Bramley and Stanningley) added:
“It was lovely to go and visit the Under 9s and see them enjoying themselves and training hard. They are an extremely talented group of young people and both Cllr Ritchie and I were hugely impressed by them, both with their rugby skills and how polite and easy to talk to they all were. They are a credit to their Club and to their families and it was a real pleasure to be able to help them.”
